What is HCAHPS?
HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) is a standardized survey instrument and data collection methodology for measuring patients' perspectives on hospital care. The survey covers various aspects of the patient experience, including communication with nurses and doctors, responsiveness of hospital staff, cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment, pain management, communication about medicines, discharge information, and overall rating of the hospital.
About the project.
The dataset is obtained from Maven Analytics, with project's core focus relying primarily on telling a story through data visualization. Flow of visuals follow a hierarchical schema, with a focus on obtaining an eagle's eye view of the dataset, followed by focusing on region, state, and measures in respective order. A combination of PBI's visuals combined with DAX measures is used to develop references in KPIs for better understanding.
What are the insights?
Throughout the dashboard, three terminologies related to survey results will be extensively used, which need to be understood beforehand. These are:
1. Top Box Percentage: The answer(s) to the question considered most positive.
2. Middle Box Percentage: The answer(s) to the question considered intermediate.
3. Bottom Box Percentage: The answer(s) to the question considered least positive.
Eagle Eye View in the dashboard focuses on showing a historical trend of the survey scores from 2013 - 2022. Top Box Percentage scores have been made most prominent throughout the dashboard because they mainly identify the effectiveness of a measure, and ultimately how 'good' the measured indicator is.
The most evident insight obtained is a sudden dip in the Top Box Percentage scores from 2021 onwards, which further translates into an increase in Middle and Bottom Box Percentage scores. This can be attributed to the advent of COVID-19, but what exactly caused the drop in scores is further analyzed in the next sections.

Further deep dive shows us that on a regional level, decrease in Top Box Percentage scores is universal across all states, but Mid-Atlantic region has seen the most significant drops in survey scores. This is further drilled down on a measure-level, where dips in all measures is clearly visible, but the most notable decrease can be found in the following measures:
1. Responsiveness of Hospital Staff.
2. Cleanliness of Hospital Environment.
3. Communication about Medicines.

On state-level, a significant drop in scores can be seen in states of Mid-Atlantic, South-Atlantic, and Pacific regions, which was pretty evident in the regional view. This is further vetted by the measure-wise visuals, where an overall drop in scores across all measures can be seen during COVID-impacted years.

The dashboard has mainly focused on visualizing the survey results and identifying the areas where hospitals have experienced issues before, and during COVID-19.
